Knights of the Southern Cross QLD

Our Projects

The Order of the Knights of the Southern Cross carries out a wide variety of projects, which vary from State to State. At a national level, the Order has provided support for the Church in Australia, influenced the development of programs of evangelization and Catholic education, and provided aid to those in need. Through its projects, the Order promotes an awareness of the Knights’ mission across Australia and around the world.

Assisting Refugees

The Order throughout Queensland has been involved in supporting and assisting refugees in a range of community settings. The most significant public involvement has been initiated through the work of the Townsville Branches who have advocated very strongly for a parishioner who was a refugee convert. A Petition was organised and circulated nationally. As part of the Australian KSC National Refugee Project a number of Branches have continued to make contact with refugees residing in their parish areas to provide support and assistance. The Order has also been involved in responding to the Bishops call for assistance in resettling the Syrian refugees.

Corpus Christi Procession

Our Brisbane Branches provide assistance with the Corpus Christi (Body of Christ) Procession each year on Corpus Christi Sunday. The Procession is now held in the central city streets starting and finishing at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Brisbane. For many years before that it was held at the Ambrose Treacy College grounds in Brisbane. Twenty or more Knights ably assist with this procession of the Body of Christ.

Keep Christ in Christmas

A “Keep Christ in Christmas” campaign over a number of years has been coordinated by the Ingham Branch. The most recent promotion being a striking poster of the nativity scene. Posters are available to all Branches nationally for placing in shop windows, staff notice boards, churches, and schools to illustrate the true meaning of Christmas throughout our community. Cost is $1 including handling and postage. Orders can be placed through PO Box 552, Ingham, Queensland 4850 or Tel: 0407 635 175. This presents a great opportunity to be involved in a wonderful Christmas Campaign and support Pope Francis’s new evangelisation. Together we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually.
